The Red River Settlement and the Emergence of Manitoba 1811-1870
by J.M. Bumsted
COMPLETING HIS TRILOGY examining early Manitoba history, begun with Fur Trade Wars and The Red River Rebellion, Jack Bumsted now turns his eye on the formative years leading up to Confederation.
Trials and Tribulations investigates the development of the Red River settlement from a backwoods fur trade depot to a rich multicultural community dominated by mixed-blood Métis. This new, unique culture was just beginning to flourish when technology and immigration suddenly combined to wash it way like a spring flood.
Find out how and why this happened.
